NEW YORK CITY emergency services and police rushed to the scene after reports of an “explosion” at a bus terminal.

The New York Fire Department and Police said it was responding to an incident at Port Authority in Manhattan.
The New York Police Department tweeted they had been called to “reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave.”
In the footage commuters can be seen rushing away from the scene.

Emergency services can be seen descending on the Manhattan terminal after reports of an explosion.
Some subway lines were also evacuated.
Unconfirmed reports on ABC news, citing a New York Police Department source, said the explosion may have been caused by a pipe bomb.
One person is in custody and multiple people are injured, the source added.
It was claimed that the bomb was detonated in a passageway below the ground at the bus terminal.

NYPD tweeted: “The NYPD is responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave, #Manhattan.
“The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time. Info is preliminary, more when available.”
Bystanders said that there was a “stampede” as they were evacuated from the area.
One woman wrote: “Just was stuck in a running stampede at port authority bus terminal due to a bomb scare.
“Cops EVERYWHERE.”
The Port Authority is a major transport hub in the city where trains and buses operate from.
