Guinea Bissau 'on a knife-edge'
The next leader of Guinea-Bissau said it "is facing a very delicate situation" following the assassination of president Joao Bernardo "Nino" Vieira.
Parliament chief Raimundo Pereira is to become interim president according to Guinea-Bissau's constitution.
He urged fellow MPs after parliament opened "to assume their responsibility toward the nation" in ensuring calm and the rule of law.
The military blamed an "isolated group" of soldiers for Monday's assassination of Vieira, who had ruled Guinea-Bissau for 22 of the past 29 years.
It denied that the assassination was retribution for the killing of Vieira's rival, armed forces chief of staff General Batiste Tagme na Waie in a bombing on Sunday.
