10 killed in Bangladesh train crash
A passenger train has crashed into a truck on an unmanned railway crossing in northern Bangladesh, killing at least 10 people and injuring about 50 others, authorities said.
The sand-laden truck was on the crossing when the speeding train struck it outside Joypurhat town, 130 miles north of the capital Dhaka, the area's chief government administrator Shafiqul Islam said.
Most of those killed or injured were on the train, he said. It was not immediately known how many people were in the truck or what happened to them.
Islam said many of the injured were taken to hospitals.
Authorities are investigating why no guard was present at the crossing, he said.
The train - whose engine and front coach were badly damaged - was travelling from a nearby northern town of Parbatipur to the southwestern city of Khulna, Islam said.
