Emmanuel Macron’s ratings plummet faster than Hollande and Sarkozy in poll disaster
EMMANUEL Macron’s popularity has spiralled 13 per cent in just two months in a disastrous poll reflecting widespread dissatisfaction among voters.
Mr Macron’s satisfaction rating has plunged to 41 per cent
The French pinned their hopes on the centrist, seeing him as the reformist as an antidote to the populist wave washing over Europe.
But a poll, conducted by Kantar Sofres-One point for conservative Le Figaro, showed Mr Macron’s satisfaction rating had plunged to 41 per cent, down a jaw-dropping 13 percentage points from July.
More than half of those interviewed – 52 per cent – said that they “disapproved” of Mr Macron’s actions as president, up 14 percentage points from July.
The cumulative drop in the head of state’s popularity rating since July was bigger than that of previous presidents François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy over the same period, the poll found.
Mr Macron’s right-hand man, conservative prime minister Edouard Philippe, also experienced a dramatic decline in support this summer.
Nearly half of voters questioned, 47 per cent, told pollsters they did not approve of Mr Philippe’s actions as prime minister, up from 38 per cent in July.
