Steve Bannon has declared that the presidency he fought for 'is over'
Bannon, 63, is widely believed to have been pushed out of power by the president’s new chief of staff John Kelly, although it was yesterday claimed Mr Trump decided to let him go earlier this month.
The former media executive has returned to Right-wing website Breitbart.com, which he co-founded.
He said: “The Trump presidency we fought for, and won, is over. We still have a huge movement but it’ll be something else.
"There’ll be all kinds of fights, good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”
Less than 24 hours after dismissing him Mr Trump tweeted: “I want to thank Steve Bannon for his service.
“He came to the campaign during my run against crooked Hillary Clinton – it was great. Thanks S.”
