The French finance ministry's DGCCRF anti-fraud body issued the urgent safety warning and urged people to stop using potentially faulty siphons after popular lifestyle blogger Rebecca Burger died after a whipped cream dispenser exploded and hit her in the chest, sending her into cardiac arrest.
The 33-year-old, ran a popular fitness and travel blog called “Rebecca Likes” and had more than 200,000 followers on social media.

Since 2010, several models of kitchen siphons have turned out to be faulty and caused serious domestic accidents
She was rushed to hospital unconscious on Saturday afternoon but died on Sunday.
The DGCCRF said in a press release: “Since 2010, several models of kitchen siphons have turned out to be faulty and caused serious domestic accidents.

“If the siphon explodes, the gas canisters will be expelled at high speed, and hit the person holding the siphon in the face or in the chest. The explosion could also cause serious hand injuries.”
The anti-fraud body added that the vast majority of those who had suffered siphon-related injuries had bought their whipped cream dispensers “between 2010 and 2013,” adding that the faulty canisters had “a plastic head and an aluminium body” and that “more than 200,000” defective dispensers had been recalled since Mrs Burger’s death, which is being investigated by police.

The DGCCRF also urged consumers to “check” whether the kitchen siphon they had at home had been recalled by calling the manufacturer, and to “stop using it immediately” if they did not know which company had made it and if it had an aluminium body and a plastic cap.
The DGCCRF also called on siphon manufacturers to recall all defective devices immediately.
Rebecca was rushed to hospital but died the following day
Ard’Time, manufacturers of the whipped cream dispenser that killed Mrs Burger, said that it had stopped selling its siphons and recalled all suspect models.
“We can only regret this accident, although at this stage no link has been established between our label and the accident. We did all we could to alert everyone,” a spokesperson for Ard’Time told the French magazine L’Express.
