Officers have arrested a 29-year-old man in relation to the incident, a police statement confirmed.
The man was already known to authorities and was found to be acting suspiciously at the scene.
Visitors did not panic over the incident, according to reports
There are also reports police were dispatched to the city’s main railway station.
One witness tweeted: “Helis are still hovering around centrum. Never seen such police deployment in Eindhoven.”
Another wrote: “Apparently there is a terror threat in my freaking city... Just saw all these police cars at the freaking station in Eindhoven.”
Police in Eindhoven reportedly used a “CTER” code, meaning the incident was terror related.
Local reports said there was little panic among visitors after security for the event was already scaled up following the bombing at Manchester Arena in May.
The Manchester bombing, carried out by Salman Abedi, left 22 people dead and dozens more injured.
