Kiev explosion: Bomb detonates outside US embassy in Ukraine, terror probe launched
KIEV has been rocked by an explosion outside the US embassy.
Police investigate the scene of an explosion in the US embassy
A small explosion which occurred on the lawn of the US Embassy in Ukraine during the night on June 8 was deemed an “act of terrorism” by the police.
The device, which exploded around midnight in central Kiev, caused no casualties.
An investigation into the blast was launched, and a statement read: "Investigators found that an unknown person threw an explosive device onto the grounds of the diplomatic mission”.
An investigation has been launched into the incident
The US embassy played down the incident on their Facebook page, stating they did not at the present time regard it as an act of terror.
They added that there was no damage to the embassy property in Kiev’s Shevchenkovsky District and no personnel were injured.
Crime scene investigators inspect the scene
The embassy was open to visitors as usual this morning, however, they are working closely with local partners in the investigation.
No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility.
