Moroccan Mouner El Aoual has been arrested over alleged plans to stage a terrorist attack
Mouner El Aoual, 29, was arrested in Turin, the capital of the northern region of Piedmont.
The nature of the terror attack he was plotting was not revealed but an Italian judge close to the case called him an "extremely dangerous subject".
He added the suspect had been "carrying out a work of proselytising and incitement to violent and lethal actions”.
He went on: "By intent and personality he presents a very high risk of passing on to the execution of such acts of violence."
El Aoual promoted the ideology of the Islamic Caliphate on the web and encouraged attacks on "unbelievers", according to reports.
The ROS (Special Operations Group) of the Italian Carabinieri executed a custodial order against him.

He is suspected of crimes aimed at international terrorism and incitement to crime and aggravated crime.
El Aoual, using the name Salah Deen on social media, had shared jihadist propaganda images that were difficult to find, an element that indicated his potential involvement in the IS terrorist organisation, authorities said.
They said that on an internet chat El Aoual had expressed a wish to plan a terrorist attack in Italy and was looking for other "soldiers" to help realise his plans.
