THE family of a “caring, sensitive and compassionate” British woman murdered in Jerusalem during Good Friday celebrations spoke yesterday of their devastation.

Student Hannah Bladon, 21, was repeatedly stabbed on a light railway carriage by a mentally ill Palestinian man who had earlier tried to kill himself by swallowing a razor blade.
Her family said: “Hannah was the most caring, sensitive and compassionate daughter you could ever wish for.
“She had been taking part in an archaeological dig that morning.

“Hannah was a talented musician, part of a serving team at her local church and a member of her local archaeological group. She was an enthusiastic rugby player and a keen Derby County supporter.
“She was driven and passionate and her death leaves so much promise unfulfilled. Our family are devastated by this senseless and tragic attack.”
She had been on a student exchange since January from Birmingham university, where she was studying religion, theology and archaeology.

She was due to stay at the Rothberg International School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem until summer.
Her teary-eyed grandmother said she would be joining Hannah’s parents to grieve together.

Speaking from her home in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, Linda Bladon, 69, said yesterday: “I’m off now to her parents’ house to offer my support. I’m too upset to say any more but we all are.”
A family friend added: “It’s heart-breaking. She was always a quiet girl.”
Police detained Jamil Tamini, 57, from Rasel Amud, in east Jerusalem.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said he was “filled with sadness” and that his country’s “thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim”.
