The royal couple posed with Honda’s humanoid robot Asimo at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo.
Letizia, 44, beamed as she met the all-white droid, who curtseyed as he offered his hand.
The mother-of-two wowed in a vivid red coat dress, while Felipe, 49, looked natty in a dark suit and sported his trademark beard.

Felipe and Letizia are in Japan for their first visit since Felipe became king in 2014.
They landed in Tokyo yesterday, with Letizia looking impossibly fresh wearing simple make-up, a nude jacket and leather skirt.
A statement released ahead of the trip said: “This will be King Felipe and Queen Letizia's first state visit in Asia, which represents a special opportunity to strengthen the ties of friendship between Japan and Spain.”

At the start of their three-day visit the King and Queen were greeted by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at a welcoming ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
They also met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Crown Prince Naruhito and his wife Princess Masako.
Felipe and Letizia will later visit an earthquake disaster prevention centre in Shizuoka – which was hit by a 6.4 magnitude quake in 2009 – before returning home.

Later this year the royals are reportedly set to visit the UK to meet with Queen Elizabeth.
President Donald Trump’s state visit will likely be pushed back until October to accommodate the Spanish royals, and to allow the row over his invitation to die down.
A source told the Daily Express: “I think the June slot for a state visit had been earmarked for the King and Queen so Donald Trump is going to have to wait until the autumn.”
Felipe and Letizia were due to visit Britain in March 2016, but were forced to postpone the trip due to political instability in Spain.
