Romania in TURMOIL as president REJECTS the first Muslim woman prime ministerial candidate
ROMANIA’S president has rejected the country’s first female Muslim prime ministerial candidate, it has been revealed.
Klaus Iohannis, the Romanian President rejected the Muslim Candidate for Prime Minster, Shhaideh
Klaus Iohannis said he "carefully considered" Sevil Shhaideh’s proposal but decided not to accept her nomination put forward by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after "weighing the arguments for and against".
Ms Shhaideh, also a member of the country’s Muslim Tartar minority, was nominated by Liviu Dragnea, leader of the SDP, because he is unable to nominate himself for prime minister after being convicted of electoral fraud.

If Iohannis rejects our proposal, I’m not going to make a second one. We’ll see each other in some other place
Although President Iohannis called on the SDP to pick someone else to lead the government, Mr Dragnet previously said he will fight the President.
He said: “If Iohannis rejects our proposal, I’m not going to make a second one. We’ll see each other in some other place.
Dragnea, leader of the SDP said he will fight the President
“It seems the president clearly wants to be suspended.
“We’ll weigh our options very carefully, because we don’t want to take emotional decisions. We don’t want to trigger a political crisis for nothing, but if we come to the conclusion that the President must be suspended, I won’t hesitate.”
Ms Shhaideh previously served as Minister of Regional Development in the last Social Democrat-Led government for six months, but before her nomination to become the first Muslim leader of an EU country, she had little political experience.
Mr Dragnea has the opportunity to nominate another candidate for Prime Minister who must be accepted by the President.
President Iohannis said he carefully considered the Muslim candidate's nomination
But if President Iohannis rejects the second candidate, another election will be held.
Sergio Miscoiu, a Romanian political science professor, said: “Dragnea has nominated a loyal person… it will be a government controlled by Dragnea.”

The professor’s comments echo Romanian political sources that Dragnea wanted to nominate a candidate he could control.
Traian Băsescu, the former Romanian President previously said Ms Shhaideh’s husband, a Syrian who spent most of his career working in the country’s agriculture ministry, posed a problem for Romania and her candidacy becuase of his support for the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
