The below-freezing temperatures allowed for an usual sight after a blanket of snow covered the desert regions.
Saudis were surprised to see the arrival of snow as daily temperatures in the areas tend to be around 20°C - even in November.

In the northwestern city of Tabuk, thin layers of snow are seen carpeting the ground.
According to the Saudi Gazette, temperatures reached -3°C in the Al-Jawf region and -1°C in the northern province of Al-Quryat.

Some social media users took the chance to share videos and pictures of the winter surprise.
One video shows a man 'skiing' on an icy road, while football fans built snowmen representing their favourite teams.

Although Saudi Arabia's rainfall season usually ends mid-October, the country is still experiencing some showers.
