IT was life imitating death when Mexico City recreated the opening scenes of the hit James Bond film Spectre at the weekend.
The opening scene of the James Bond hit Spectre has been recreated for 'Day of the Dead' in Mexico
A quarter of a million people lined the streets to watch the Day Of The Dead parade of giant skeletons and 1,000 dancers and acrobats in creepy costumes.
This year’s carnival was inspired by the initial scenes of the mostrecent Bond film shot in Mexico City in which the British spy chases a villain through the crowd.
Usually the Day Of The Dead is marked by family gatherings at the graves of relatives with music, drink and conversation.
But this year the tourist authorities staged the parade after the success of the film which has been seen by an estimated 100 million people.
A crowd of around 250,000 people lined the streets to watch the parade
Lourdes Berho, head of the Mexico Tourist Board, said yesterday: “When Spectre hit the big screen and was seen by millions of people in 67 different countries, that created an expectation that we should have something.

“We knew it would generate a desire on the part of people here to come and participate in a big celebration, a big parade.”
Some of the props and costumes from the film were used in the parade which cost £410,000.
