Mr Hollande said the minors were being transferred to reception centres but he expected Britain to collect them and bring them to the UK.
He said: “I talked yesterday with the British prime minister, as (French Interior Minister) Bernard Cazeneuve did with his British counterpart, so that the British can go to those centres with those minors and take their share (of responsibility) to welcome them in Britain.”
It came as it emerged that more than 100 residents of the former refugee camp had moved up the coast to Dunkirk.
However, their attempt to prolong their stay in northern France is set to end soon when the expanding camp at Grand-Synthe is bulldozed to the ground.

Franck Dhersin, mayor of Teteghem, near Dunkirk, said: “We expect that more people from the jungle will come to Grand-Synthe this week, which is concerning for the residents living around the camp.
“There are now plans to shut this camp as well but no date has yet been set.”

Several hundred cabins were built at the camp to try and improve insanitary conditions, but they will not provide good shelter in the winter months.
Scores of tents and makeshift homes ring the cabins.
