So two American researchers have now released a map, which sets out where in the world one billion people could live.
They ruled out places in the world that have high stress land covered with ice and place with species that need protecting.
However, large areas of central Africa with lots of resources came out on top, as well as South America, boasting a warm climate that can support the production of crops including rice and maize.
While Africa has the space, it is poorly governed and low employability rates
But the relocation of people won’t come without its challenges.
The video, released by Nature said:”As recent refugee-crises in the Middle East demonstrate, relocating people from their homelands to new shores is not easy politically, emotionally or practically.
“At the moment, these areas are poorly governed and there are few jobs. South America's nearby biodiversity hotspots like the Amazon Basin need protecting.”
