More than HALF A MILLION failed asylum seekers STILL living in Germany
MORE than half a million migrants who have seen their asylum applications rejected are STILL living in Germany, a parliamentary inquiry claims.

Germany’s deportation process is now at a standstill, the probe discovered, with more than 549,000 people still in the country at the end of June.
A vast majority will never be made to leave either, the report suggests.
Three quarters have been living in Germany for more than six years, according to a German newspaper which reported on the inquiry.

Meanwhile almost half were granted an indefinite right of residence – and another third were in possession of a temporary residence permit.
These permits allow them to remain in Germany despite their reasons for fleeing not being officially recognised.
A further 168,212 were considered “tolerated”, meaning their deportation had been temporarily suspended.Just 13,134 of the foreigners were deported between January and July of this year.
Hans-Peter Friedrich, deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, called for an immediate reform of Germany’s deportation laws.

He said allowing the failed asylum seekers to remain in the country would “destroy public confidence in the capacity of the state”.
The head of the German police union, Rainer Wendt, also criticised the laws, claiming lawyers and organisations such as Pro Asyl - a charity aiming to finance refugee and human-rights work - “systematically” prevent the lawful return of rejected asylum seekers.
He added: “Legislation needs to be addressed urgently.”
