THOUSANDS of revellers are throwing 150,000 kilos worth of tomatoes at each other today as Spain gets stuck into the world's biggest food fight.

Preparations for the annual 'La Tomatina' festival began yesterday in Bunol, west of the Spanish city of Valencia.
Crates of the red fruit were piled high on trucks, while people covered balconies in plastic sheets and board up houses and shopfronts.

It is held on the last Wednesday of August each year.
In previous years the event has attracted 45,000 people, but to restrict numbers participants are now charged €10 (£8.50) to enter by the local council.
The entry fee - introduced in 2013 - also helps to boost public funds for the previously recession-hit town.
