The four-time leader will go under the knife to replace a defective aortic valve, his doctor said yesterday.
Berlusconi’s personal doctor Alberto Zangrillo told reporters: “We have identified in an exact and certain way a pathology of aortic valve that is called aortic insufficiency.
"There’s only one way to correct it, which is the substitution of the aortic valve.

The 79-year-old centre-right leader and media mogul was admitted to hospital on Monday suffering from what his doctors called a “cardiac deficiency”.
Mr Zangrillo said Berlusconi should make a full recovery within a month.

Mr Berlusconi, who was the leader of the centre-right party Forza Italia from 1994 to 2009, was banned from public office for six years after being convicted of tax fraud.
A highly controversial figure, he was best known for his infamous Bunga Bunga sex parties which featured young, nude women.
