Malaysian PM gets £478,000,000 as ‘gift from Saudi Arabian royals’
MALAYSIA’S Prime Minister is embroiled in a $681million scandal after Saudi Arabian money mysteriously appeared in his bank account.
The prime minister is embroiled in a money row
The eye-watering amount was transferred into Najib Razak’s personal account.
But the country’s attorney-general has shot down accusations of misconduct.
Mohamed Apandi Ali claims the cash was a present from the royal family of Saudi Arabia and no criminal activity or corruption took place.
The money was apparently a gift from the Saudi Arabian royal family
He said the transfer of money was "not a form of graft or bribery”.
Mr Ali added: ”There was no reason given as to why the donation was made to PM Najib, that is between him and the Saudi family.”
He received hundreds of millions of dollars
It comes after three investigation were submitted by Malaysia’s anti-graft agency.
Sources in the US say the Prime Minister returned $620million to the Saudi donor.
The saga has been going on for months
Mr Razak had previously said the money came from a Middle Eastern benefactor but refused to give any extra details.
Reports late last year revealed the money could have been used to fund his party’s 2013 election victories.
