ISLAMIC State chief Abu Mohammed al-Adnani has reportedly been heavily wounded in an airstrike in Iraq.

Chief spokesman al-Adnani lost “a large amount of blood” when he was hit in the town of Barwanah yesterday.
He is touted at the successor to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of Islamic State, who was injured during air strikes on the Syrian border in October last year.

Al-Baghdadi was in a convoy of vehicles when it was struck by the Iraqi air force near the Syrian border.
Al-Adnani was moved from the Anbar province to the city of Hit for treatment before being transferred to Mosul under heavy guard.
Al-Adnani has been touted as the next leader of Islamic State
He is the chief spokesman for ISIS and is considered the terror group’s best-known public figure in Iraq.
In 2005 he was captured by US troops and is believed to have been held at Camp Bucca, an American detention facility.

A spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Operations Command confirmed the targeted strikes on Barwanah.
