1,000-runs in innings schoolboy blasts his way into cricket history
A TEENAGER smashed his way into the record books after scoring more than 1,000 runs in a single innings during a cricket match in India.
Dhanawade smashed the previous record of 628
Schoolboy Pranav Dhanawade, 15, made history by hitting 1,009 not out in an inter-school tournament in Mumbai.
His runs came from only 323 balls, with his team declaring on 1465 for two. He scored 129 fours and 59 sixes during the innings which put even England star Ben Stokes' record-breaking heroics in the shade.
Cricket - Worst bat ever
Earlier this week Stokes hit the fastest double century for England, the second fastest in history, on day two of the second Test with South Africa in Cape Town.
Congrats Pranav Dhanawade on being the first to score 1,000 runs in an innings. Well done and work hard. You need to scale new peaks!
Dhanawade's knock easily surpassed the 628 scored by Englishman Arthur Collins in 1899.
Historical scorecards show that Collins - born in India himself - scored 628 in a match at Clifton College, Bristol, where a plaque remains to this day commemorating the innings.
At social media post from a cricket legend
AEJ Collins scored 628 in 1899
Mumbai has a tradition of big scores in school cricket. Retired legend Sachin Tendulkar first came to prominence with a 326 not out when he was also aged 15 in 1988.
Yesterday Tendulkar wrote on Twitter: "Congrats Pranav Dhanawade on being the first to score 1,000 runs in an innings. Well done and work hard. You need to scale new peaks!"
The delighted youngster said: "When I started I never thought about breaking the record. The focus was never that. I just played my natural game, which is to attack from the word go,"
