American university on lockdown after shooting leaves one dead
AN AMERICAN university was placed on lockdown today after one person was injured and another shot dead by a gunman at a student housing complex.

The shooting took place at student apartments near the Texas Southern University at around 11:30am local time today.
Police were hunting the suspected shooter while classes at the Texas Southern University were cancelled as the manhunt took place.
A Houston Police spokeswoman confirmed two suspects were taken into custody, while a third person was being sought for questioning.
The shooting was reported at University Courtyard Apartments on the edge of campus, a spokesman for the university said.

A news report released by the university read: "The recent shooting incidents on our campus have been extremely difficult and troubling for our entire university community."
It went on to remind all students, staff and visitors to the campus "to remain vigilant and to report all suspicious activity, no matter how minor it may seem".
Texas Southern is a historically black university with some 9,700 students.
Police are still investigating the incident

The incident occurred just hours after another shooting near the same housing complex.
The overnight victim was treated for their wound and later released from hospital.
It is not clear if the two incidents are related.
