Tragedy as pilot dies in horror aircraft crash over the ocean – just two miles off coast
ONE person has died after a horror aircraft crash over the ocean, police have confirmed.
Police were searching for the missing aircraft
The male pilot crashed his two-man ultralight aircraft after taking off from an airstrip on North Stradbroke Island, Australia.
He was the only person onboard and it is not known what caused the crash.
He activated a distress beacon at about 11.20am local time.
A major search was launched after initial reports that six people had been killed.
"It's still not clear where the destination was," a spokeswoman said.
The coast of North Stradbroke Island is lined with stunning beaches and clear blue water.
It is a popular draw for tourists visiting east Australia.
