New York police officer rushed to hospital 'after shooting himself'
A NEW York police officer has been rushed to hospital after he shot himself in an apparent suicide attempt, according to reports.

The policeman, who is understood to work for the New York City Police Department (NYPD), is said to be fighting for his life following the incident in Brooklyn.
The unnamed off-duty officer was rushed to the nearby Lutheran Trauma Center shortly after 4pm local time escorted by an NYPD helicopter overhead.
He was reportedly found with at least one suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to an early report by the New York Post.
The officer was rushed to hospital in cardiac and traumatic arrest, and is currently believed to be in a critical condition.
It is believed that the gun used was his department-issued service weapon, the New York Daily reported.
He is reportedly an off-duty sergeant but it is not clear which command he is assigned to.
Although unconfirmed, reports suggest that the officer does not work in Brooklyn.
