WATCH: Terrified man comes face-to-face with great white shark in Sydney – but is it FAKE?
A VIDEO has emerged which appears to show a man jumping into Sydney harbour - and coming face-to-face with a great white shark.
The video, entitled 'Close call with a great white shark in Sydney Harbour', has proved on online hit.
It shows a man strapping on a GoPro camera before leaping into the ocean from Jump Rock off Collins Beach.
He then looks back to see his friends screaming “shark”.
As he swims a giant shark appears, before making his frantic escape to the shore.
However, commenters on YouTube have cast doubt over the video's authenticity.
One user, Sacred Nose Bone, said: "The shark Teleports at the 0:59 mark..... It goes from centre of the screen to the left of the screen in one frame."
Who's Evasive said it may have been a publicity stunt: "I'm more convinced that this is a GoPro ad campaign than anything else right now."
Giving further credence to the possibility the video is a fake is the fact the video is the only one on uploader Terry Tufferson's account.
However, not everyone thinks the video is staged.
Jim Munro said: "I cannot see how this could have been faked. It looks like a man with a GoPro has encountered a small shark in Sydney Harbour, Australia."
