Off-duty royal marine saves '100 lives' from Westgate gunmen
AN OFF-DUTY SAS soldier saved more than 100 lives after hearing terrorist gunfire and grenades exploding as he sipped coffee in the Nairobi shopping mall, it was claimed today.
The man, whose identity has to be protected for security reasons, was with friends in the Westgate shopping centre when the violence erupted on Saturday.
He was photographed with a hand gun tucked into his trousers while helping two women escape outside.
He is said to have returned to the building a dozen times under heavy fire as he helped people flee the massacre.
A source in Nairobi told the Daily Mail: "He went back in 12 times and saved 100 people. Imagine going back in when you knew what was going on inside. What he did was so heroic.”
Sources say the man was a member of British special forces regiment the SAS, who are known to train and operate in the region.
