Powerful show of support for Turkey's prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
THOUSANDS of people who back the Turkish prime minister rallied yesterday in a powerful show of support after two weeks of anti-government protests.
Flag-waving supporters of Recep Tayyip Erdogan converged in Sincan – a suburb of the capital Ankara that is a stronghold of his Justice and Development Party.
Organisers hoisted a giant poster of Erdogan on a platform where he was due to speak later.
Protesters have vowed to press on with a sit-in at Istanbul’s Gezi Park against government plans to build on it, defying a warning from Erdogan to leave.
