‘Major Tom’ back on Earth
SINGING astronaut Chris Hadfield touched down yesterday after his zero-gravity rendition of David Bowie’s hit Space Oddity made him an internet star.
A capsule carrying the 53-year-old Canadian astronaut and two crewmates landed safely by parachute in Kazakhstan after they completed five months orbiting the Earth on the International Space Station. Before landing he radioed: “It’s been an amazing experience.”
Hadfield posted a string of videos about life in space online. His last – singing pop legend Bowie’s “Major Tom” lines while floating weightless – was viewed more than five million times on YouTube. It was also the first music video made in space.
