Well-wishers warned of donating to bogus Boston Marathon charity websites
SCAMMERS could look to profit from the Boston Marathon bombings by setting up bogus charity websites, well-wishers have been warned today.
Hours after the attack which left over 180 injured and three dead domains such as 'bostonmarathondonations.com' were registered.
While it is unclear how the websites will be used, well wishers have been warned to be aware of bogus sites looking to benefit from the disaster.
According to CBS, Miami Beach Police sent out a message to residents to beware of fake websites looking to scam them out of their money.
The warning comes after one fraudster tried to fool the public on Twitter minutes after the explosives were detonated on Monday.
Account @_BostonMarathon, who claimed to be associated with the Boston Marathon organisers, promised to donate one dollar for every retweet.
The message received over 50,000 retweets, but once it was discovered the pledge was a fake the social networking site disabled the account.
Well wishers looking to donate have been advised to use service Charity Navigator to see if the site is legitimate.
