100 die in new Syria massacre
UP to 100 people including women and children were killed last night in a new massacre by Syrian government forces, rebels said.
They said civilians were executed with guns and knives after pro government fighters stormed two villages in the province of Hama.
The Syrian National Council and activists The Local Co-ordination Committees said the village of al-Qubair had come under heavy attack, and as many as 78 died, including 35 members of one family.
Activists said much of the killing was done by pro-government militiamen known as “shabiha”.
Others were killed in the village of Maarzaf.
At least 12 bodies had been burned, the activists said.
The killings come less than two weeks after a massacre in the Syrian town of Houla, in which 108 people were killed, nearly half of them children.
