Shark seriously injures wakeboarder
A woman was mauled by a shark as she rode a wakeboard towed by a speed boat off the Australian east coast.
Ambulance Service spokesman John Wilson said the 24-year-old woman suffered head, neck and arm injuries in the attack in Nelson Bay, north of Sydney.
The boat driver apparently delivered her to a wharf where paramedics stabilised her condition before she was taken by helicopter to a hospital.
Helicopter crewman Glen Rampling said the woman fell from her wakeboard before she was attacked.
A hospital spokeswoman, who declined to be identified citing hospital policy, described the woman's condition as stable.
