The headless body of a woman believed to be a 32-year-old Eritrean mother has been found in a forest in Germany. The discovery came after a newborn baby, believed to be the child of the Eritrean woman, had been left at a monastery.

It comes two weeks after severed hands were dumped on the A45 motorway near Olpe in North Rhine-Westphalia. The motorway was immediatelty cordoned off after a driver reported seeing human remains on the side of the road. The hands are also believed to be of a 32-year-old Eritrean mother, who last lived in asylum accommodation in Bonn.

The body was discovered by a walker in woodland near Monreal, a small medieval village in Rhineland-Palatinate, about 70 miles away from the A45.

Forensic experts in Bonn later confirmed that her hands had been cut off after death, and while a DNA test is pending to establish her identity, her head has not yet been found.

The discovery of the baby outside the Coptic Orthodox monastery in Waldsolms, Hesse, has added a poignant dimension to the case. Monks found the three‑month‑old child safely placed in a stroller at their gates, suggesting that whoever left the baby intended for it to be found quickly and unharmed.

Reports indicate the infant was carefully wrapped for warmth and security, with a label attached giving the child’s name and date of birth.

Local authorities are now investigating how the child came to be there, while the monastery community has expressed relief that the baby was unharmed and is receiving proper care.

Police officials haveheld in “official custody” the 41-year-old partner of the Eritrean woman, reports The Sun.

According to German media, officials have went through the women's asylum hostel but no signs of violence were reprted from the accomodation.
