British tourist found dead on beautiful island after 'asking staff to let him change room'

A British tourist was found dead in a hostel in Bali the morning after he had reportedly asked staff to have his room changed. 

The 32-year-old reportedly told a friend he was feeling unwell before returning to the room he was staying at the hostel in the Badung Regency.  

The man had reportedly planned to change rooms the following day, the Sun reports. 

Concerns emerged as a cleaner noticed he had not left his room past noon. 

Growing suspicious, she informed hostel staff who alerted the police.

Head of Public Relations of the Badung Police said: "The witness tried to clean the room because the victim had actually wanted to move rooms.

"It was his own request the day before. The witness knocked on the room wall several times but there was no response.

"Suspecting something unwanted had happened in the room, she tried to open the curtain and was shocked to see the victim lying face down."

No evidence of violence has been found, while police said they believed the man was suffering from an illness.

Police have as yet not provided any further details about the man, including where in the UK he was from. However, it is understood he was in Bali with a group of friends.

Officials are carrying out a post-mortem examination as they seek to establish the cause of death.

Bali has been in the news several times this summer over tragic accidents that have left a number of tourists dead.

In June a group of tourists from Qatar was swept out to sea just off the iconic Kelingking Beach. Two were injured, and one tragically lost their life in the waves.  

The tourists, in their 30s, were traveling as part of a group of eight people.

They were visiting Kelingking Beach as part of a tour of Nusa Penida and were dropped off at the iconic landmark by a local driver.

The trio were reported to have been swimming in the shallow waters off Kelingking Beach, when they were dragged out to the open ocean.
