A British tourist who was missing for four days in Italy has been reunited with his family, after his Apple Watch's last signal revealed that he was last detected near the coast.

Kei Hixor, 21, disappeared on July 13 while visiting his mother's hometown of Cava de' Tirreni near Salerno. Kei was on holiday with his parents and brother when he fell ill on Saturday and was taken to the San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona hospital.

After being examined by doctors, Kei left the hospital alone around 8pm and vanished.

According to Italian media, Kei, who only speaks English, was not carrying a mobile phone or any documents at the time.

Today (July 18), his family release a statement confirming he was found "tired, hungry, and exhausted" in the countryside, somewhere between Pontecagnano and Bellizzi.

His cousin Rita Criscuolo wrote on social media: "HE HAS BEEN FOUND. The family thanks from the bottom of the heart the way you supported us, the participation you had and the thought even just to share the news, you helped us immensely. Thank you again."

It comes after the last signal from his Apple Watch was detected on the Salerno coast, prompting his parents to file a missing person's report. Local police quickly launched a search for the young tourist, extending efforts into surrounding areas, including Naples.

Kei's cousin, Rita Criscuolo, made an urgent appeal on the Cava de' Tirreni Facebook page.

She wrote: "MISSING! My cousin Kei hasn’t been home for two days. He went out to Salerno on Saturday night but hasn’t come back. He has no phone or documents with him and only speaks English. He was wearing a gray t-shirt."

She urged anyone with information to contact her, Kei's family, or the local police.

This incident follows another case where a 25-year-old Briton named Michael went missing in the Sardinian countryside on Saturday.

His mother, Cristina Pittalis, reported him missing on Sunday, and a frantic search involving firefighters and the Forest Guard began near Luogosanto.

Michael is described as a "very sweet boy" who is "confused" and thinner than in recent photos. His mother has called on locals to assist in the search.

Authorities are also searching for two other missing individuals in northern Sardinia: an elderly tourist in Valledoria with health problems and Carla Visentin, an elderly woman who moves with difficulty and disappeared from Stintino.

The search for all three missing people has been ongoing since Sunday evening.
