Elderly British man arrested for 'photographing children' on Santorini beach
AN ELDERLY man said to be British was arrested on the Greek island of Santorini after beachgoers reported him to the police for secretly photographing children playing by the seaside.
Concerned parents claimed they saw the man on Kamari Beach, in a resort village on the east of the island, photographing young bathers in their swimsuits with his mobile phone.
According to national outlet Protothema, he was "taking photos of minor children who were playing carelessly".
Local media say the affected families looked for police near the site of the alleged events, which is less than 10 kilometres from Santorini's capital Fira.
Officers launched a search operation of the area and soon after, the man was detained and taken to the Thira Police Sub-Directorate.
He was there identified by the mother of one of the children.
The case file was then referred to a prosecutor at the Naxos Court of First Instance.
