Pakistan: Search for bomb victims
RESCUERS were still searching for survivors yesterday after a suicide bomber killed at least 89 people at a volleyball game in northern Pakistan.
Hundreds were packed into the makeshift stadium when the blast ripped it apart.
The attack, in Shah Hassankhel, was one of the worst yet in the troubled area and suggests that Al Qaeda-linked Taliban insurgents are targeting civilians to spread terror, rather than attacking security forces. A day after the bomber blew up his SUV at the sports field rescuers were still frantically searching for victims.
Villager Zahid Mohammad said: “We still believe there are more bodies buried in the rubble and the death toll may go up.
“People are digging with their hands and spades and there is no heavy machinery to help us. It is just pathetic.”
