Surfer confirmed dead after horror shark attack in California
A 26-YEAR-OLD surfer was killed in a shark attack of a Santa Cruz county beach in Northern California according to officials.
The male victim was attacked around 1.30pm local time Saturday according to a statement from California Park Rangers. He was surfing off Manresa State Beach on the northern end of Monterey Bay. The country sheriff’s office said: “State Parks is responding to a shark attack at Sand Dollar Beach in Santa Cruz County.
“Please avoid area and water.”
The victim’s name has not been released.
His family have, however, been notified.
For the upcoming five days, the water one mile north and south of the attack will be closed.

The attack is understood to have occurred within 100 yards of shore.
The statement said: "State Parks expresses its deepest sympathy to the family of the victim.”
Local officials close the beach everyday between 11am and 5pm due to the coronavirus outbreak.
At the time of writing, California has confirmed 2,678 coronavirus deaths.
The US in total has suffered 79,645.
State Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced: “Every registered voter will receive a mail-in ballot for the Nov election.
“We’ll also provide safe in-person voting options.
“The right to vote is foundational to our democracy. No one should be forced to risk their health to exercise that right.”
