A separate bomb erupted at a second postal-sorting centre in Kerkrade in the south of the country. Police in Amsterdam said: “On Wednesday morning, an explosion took place in a mailroom of a business building on the Bolstoen just before 8 am, presumably caused by a bomb letter. No injured.” Their colleagues in Limburg said: “A letter package exploded at a postal sorting company on Wiebachstraat in Kerkrade around 8:30 am. No one was hurt.
“The company has been evacuated and Team Explosives Exploration is on site to conduct investigations.
“It is still unknown whether there is a connection with the explosion of a letter package this morning in Amsterdam.”
In late December and early January several mail bombs were sent to businesses in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Maastricht.

All of the bombs were followed by a threatening letter.
Police said at the time: "The letter bombs did not cause any damage because the explosives did not detonate, but could have caused serious bodily injury”.
Police have been unable to say whether the two incidents are definitely linked.
Police in Limburg tweeted: "Reporting a suspicious letter to the Avenue Ceramique #Maastricht building. No explosion.
"Present building housed in a building nearby. TEV conducts research. This report is included in the investigation."
