Rhode Island shooting: 'Schools on lockdown' after active shooter leaves multiple injured
RHODE ISLAND is on lockdown following reports of an “active shooter” which has left several people fighting for their lives.
Rhode Island: Police respond to shooting in Westerly
According to local reports there are “multiple victims” following the incident in the town of Westerly. Rhode Island, state Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Kristina Murray told CNN three people have been injured. The incident took place at the Babcock Village apartments in Westerly.
Emergency services outlet in Rhode Island SNE alerts wrote on Twitter: “Westerly Rhode Island, Babcock Village, According to FIRE DISPATCH they have an active shooter.
“Multiple victims according to DISPATCH current victims have been extricated and transported.
“Situation unfolding now.”
SNE shared another post which read: “Westerly, RI has a multiple shooting on Cross St. Schools in lockdown.”
Westerly Public Schools has announced its premises is on “lockdown” but reassured the public there is “no verifiable threat” to the building.
The school wrote on Facebook: “All schools remain locked down. There is no verifiable threat to any buildings.
“We are in ongoing communication with WPD and will lift the lockdown at their direction.”
