Tourist warning: Lake Como flooded as Lombardy hit by heavy rain
TOURIST destination Lake Como is flooded after the region of Lombardy was struck by torrential rains.
Italy: Flash floods rage through city of Brescia
The region in northern Italy has faced widespread flooding, including in popular holiday destination Lake Como. The extreme weather has triggered landslides and forced 1,000 people to evacuate across the region. Roads around Lake Como have been closed after heavy rain left them underwater.
Premana, Pagnona and Primaluna have also been hit by flooding.
An evacuation plan has been set up for some 800 people in Valsassina, while 70 residents were removed from their homes in Brescia.
Train services were disrupted and there has also been crop damage and fallen trees.
Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said: “At the moment there is no alarm for people.”

He said that “the procedure is starting to ask the Government to declare the national state of emergency”.
In a series of tweets, the fire services revealed that drones were monitoring areas in Premana affected by landslides.
They said that two people in Pagnana were rescued from the roof of a house by helicopter.
Firefighters added that they evacuated houses in Dervio, while in Brescia they were responding to fallen trees, floods and damaged structures.
Lake Como is one of the most popular destinations for tourists visiting Italy.
The flooding comes as parts of Italy are expecting a heatwave, with soaring temperatures forecast.
