El Chapo: Sons of infamous Mexican drug lord indicted by the US Justice department
THE sons of notorious Mexican drug lord 'El Chapo' were indicted on drug conspiracy charges yesterday.
Joaquin Guzman Lopez, 34, and Ovidio Guzman Lopez, 28 were allegedly charged by the Justice Department in the US in a single-count indictment. The two brothers have apparently been charged with distributing cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana between 2018 to 2018. Both are believed to be living in Mexico and remain fugitives.
The notorious drug lord was convicted earlier this month in a trial that lasted three months.
He was convicted on charges that he had masterminded a drug smuggling operation that transported vast amounts of cocaine into American cities.
The US District Court Judge set a tentative date for his sentencing for June 25.
Otherwise known as Joaquin Guzman, the Mexican drug lord was arrested in January 2016.

He was extradited to the US in 2017 following his arrest.
The infamous drug baron was accused of leading the powerful Sinaloa drug cartel.
Prosecutors said that they believed it was the biggest supplier of drugs to the US.
According to Forbes' list of the world richest men, he has an estimated worth of £775million ($1billion).

udge Brian Cogan presided over the trial and thanked jurors for their efforts in what was a complex trial.
He added that their efforts were "remarkable and it made me very proud to be an American".
US Attorney for the Eastern District Richard Donoghue proclaimed that the verdict was " a sentence of which there is no escape and no return."
However, one of Guzman's defence team, Michael Lambert that "he's a fighter" and that he is "not done yet".
