Prince Philip reveals reason behind retirement in 2017
The grand patriarch of the British royal family, Prince Philip is probably best known for his "controversial" sense of humour. Michael Palin revealed how the Duke of Edinburgh responded when the presenter told him he was visiting Korea. The TV star met Prince Philip in 2017, according to Radio Times magazine.
Mr Palin said: “I told him I was off to Korea and he replied 'oh, God. Don’t start a bloody war!'"
It was said at a time of heightened hostility between North Korea and the US.
Tensions rose when North Korea conducted missile and teats that demonstrated the country’s nuclear capability.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned in 2017 that the North Korean crisis could cause a “planetary catastrophe” and “huge loss of life”.
In September 2017, Mr Putin said: “Ramping up military hysteria in such conditions is senseless – it’s a dead end."
He added: “It could lead to a global, planetary catastrophe and a huge loss of human life.
“There is no other way to solve the North Korean nuclear issue, save that of peaceful dialogue”.
However, since then, the volatility of the situation looks remarkably different.
