Enthusiasts of exploring abandoned buildings, referred to as urban exploration, understand there are several principles they must follow. Amongst these, as reported by HuffPost, are to always go out in pairs or larger groups, never to access a derelict building by breaking a wall, door, or window, and "take nothing but photos, and leave nothing but footprints".

However, one person violated a crucial principle by bringing something they discovered in a derelict hospital back with them - and received widespread approval from fellow urban explorers. The explorer shared multiple photographs of the derelict hospital, displaying walls and doors plastered in graffiti, discarded medication wrappers, and boxes for video tapes of 1986 comedy-drama She's Gotta Have It and 1996 sci-fi thriller Independence Day. Yet the final two photographs revealed something unanticipated.

Revealing they'd found a small grey-brown mackerel tabby cat, they revealed they'd taken the animal back home with them. The user wrote: "I'm sorry I just had to."

Providing further details in the comments, they explained: "My heart was weeping my joy. I saw someone find a dog on this sub [Reddit page] and wanted that so bad (with a cat no prob with dogs though).

"And just as I'm getting to the exit of the hospital she follows me out. And wouldn't stop either. I caved. Wrapped her in my sweater and got an Uber.", reports the Mirror.

Despite this breaking one of the fundamental principles of urban exploration, contributors were united in their view that they had made the right choice. One commenter stated: "Thank you for being a good human. It's becoming rarer." The user responded: "Shouldn't even have to thank me for that's the minimum. Besides the kitty gets all credit for adopting me, I'm just a human."

They further revealed that they had taken the female cat to the vet, who determined she is only around four months old, but is healthy and was not microchipped.

Numerous users suggested names for the feline, with ideas such as Dora, after the adventurous cartoon character Dora the Explorer, Dusty, and Bando. However, the user disclosed they had named her Bex, short for Urbex, a term often used by urban exploration enthusiasts.

Another user commented: "Sometimes doing the right thing feels wrong. This time it must feel good." A different person remarked: "I feel like this is the one time where it's okay to break the rule."

Yet another user stated: "Nah, you didn't break any rules - the cat took you home. You're fine." One more person said: "That's not something, that's someone. No rules have been broken here."

Another user wrote: "Cats are fair game. Getting an evil one is already 50/50." And another added: "Technically you didn't break the rule. The cat needs a home!"
