Squirrels cost man £100 repair bill
A MAN had to pay out £100 in repairs to his car after squirrels decided to use it as an impromptu stove.
Mechanics discovered a stash of toasted nuts and seeds underneath the bonnet of the Ford Mondeo belonging to Ian Duckworth after he took his car to a garage because of a burning smell coming from the engine.
Ian said: “I had seen a squirrel running under the car and thought it was just hiding food from magpies. But apparently it was cooking nuts. Most had been burnt to a cinder by the heat.
“The squirrel must have been storing them for ages. I put nuts on my bird table. The squirrel must have been collecting them off bird tables and hiding them from magpies.”
Ian, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, went to a garage when the engine began to run badly and warning lights came on.
“He got a £100 bill for replacing part of the ignition system.
Garage owner Paul Cottam said: “We’ve had trouble before with mice eating plastic but not squirrels roasting nuts.”
