Blunder kills off orchids
ROAD workers have killed hundreds of rare orchids by mistakenly spraying them with weedkiller.
Nine species nurtured for 20 years near the A38 at Chudleigh, Devon, were decimated.
Ninety per cent of 700 butterfly orchids were wiped out, as seen below.
The Highways Agency admitted “over-spraying” to reduce gorse and brambles.
