Wintry showers have swept in from the Arctic and hit the north and west of Britain, leaving a blanket of snow on hills in parts of Scotland and England.
The Met Office has issued a severe ice warning for tonight as hail, sleet and rain showers continue into the night with snowfall likely in hilly areas.
Many Britons are wrapping up warm and making the most of the snow today as the winter weather sets in and the countdown to Christmas begins.

A farmer was seen walking through the snow near Newby Head farm in the Yorkshire Dales National Park today, as the cold and wintry weather looks set to continue.
Another photograph of the national park showed a lorry negotiating an icy road near Ribblehead in front of a snowy hill glimmering in the sunlight.

A lone sheep was also pictured in a snowy field near Tam Hill in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Up in Scotland, a pedestrian walked through the snow as he crosses the road during a snowfall in Pitlochry, Perthshire, on Friday.

An ambulance was also pictured driving through the snow. The Met Office and Public Health England have issued a Level 2 cold weather health alert this weekend.
Light snow also dusted a gate in Sheriffmuir, near Dunblane, on Thursday as show showers were forecast for many parts of Scotland this weekend.

The Met Office shared an image of a snowy bridge taken near Loch Ness by Em Nicholson.
The Met Office chief forecaster said further wintry showers are likely overnight, adding: “The odd cm of snow could settle over higher ground, mostly above 300 m elevation.”
A yellow level severe warning of ice will come into force between 8pm today and 10am tomorrow across the western side of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
