Spain weather maps turn volcanic red as 37C heat blast to hit in just days

Summer has arrived in Spain, with weather maps showing temperatures of up to 37C set to hit in a matter of days.

Weather maps suggest that summer has well and truly arrived in Spain, with scorching temperatures in the high 30s set to hit even before the end of May. New weather maps generated by WXCharts on May 27 show the entire Iberian Peninsula coloured in dark red and orange, signalling high temperatures are due to hit on Thursday (May 29).

The southwest of Spain will see the hottest temperatures, with highs of 37C expected near cities such as Seville and Badajoz. The coastal cities of Cadiz to the southwest and Murcia to the southeast will see temperatures between 31C and 33C, while the popular Costa Del Sol region will enjoy temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s, the maps suggest.

Further inland, the capital of Madrid will also see high temperatures of the mid-30s, according to the map generated using Met Desk data.

In the northeast, Barcelona and its neighbours will also benefit from temperatures around 30C, while in Zaragoza, highs are expected to be around 33C.

The northern Spanish cities, including San Sebastian and Bilbao, will see the lowest temperatures for May 29 at around 19C, while temperatures will be higher on the northwestern coast near A Coruna and Santiago de Compostela.

The Balearic Islands will also benefit from these balmy start-of-summer temperatures, with highs of 28C predicted on Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca, according to the maps.

Further south in the Canary Islands, temperatures are set to only reach a maximum of 22C on May 29, according to AccuWeather.
