Britain is set to roast in 30C as London and other cities are put on a 66-hour heat alert, according to incredible new weather maps.

Forecasters such as WXCharts and Netweather are predicting temperatures reaching into the thirties on Friday and Saturday (July 19 and 20).

Temperatures will be highest in the southeast, reaching up to 30C in London and Essex. It will be between 26C and 28C in the Midlands and East Anglia with temperatures dropping to between 22C and 25C in the north of England and the southwest of England.

It will be coldest in southwest Scotland and north Wales with highs of 15C. In the rest of Wales, Scotland and north England, it will be between 17C and 22C.

Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist at the British Weather Services, said: “Friday is the day, with 28C as the top mark. But as high as 30C is possible in the London area. If the forecasts are accurate, it will be the third time this year that 30C has been reached.”

The Met Office said there will be “thundery showers on Saturday, likely remaining hot in the east or southeast”.

There is also a yellow heat health alert put in place by the UK Health Security Agency from tomorrow (July 18) to Saturday (July 20).

It covers the East Midlands, the East of England, the South of England and London. This means there will probably be minor impacts with the increased risk of death and use of healthcare services by vulnerable people.

There is a green heat health warning across the rest of England, which says that though these impacts are possible, they are not expected.
