UK treated to eye-catching sunrise yesterday
EARLY risers were treated to an eye-catching sunrise across the nation yesterday with the skies turning dramatic shades of red, pink, orange and even aqua blue.
Among the most breathtaking views as dawn broke was this of Stonehenge in Wiltshire. The prehistoric monument looking resplendent amid frosty grass and a glowing rising sun. But warnings were issued last night for a widespread arctic blast over the coming days.
The UK Health Security Agency put a Level 2 cold weather alert in place because there is a risk of freezing conditions from today lasting through the weekend.
Temperatures will plummet to -4C (24F) and could be accompanied by freezing fog in places that is likely to cause chaos at airports and on roads. It could also see snow in exposed northern areas.
The agency urged people to "look out for those most at risk" from the effects of cold weather.
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes have slashed the odds on this month going down as the wettest January.
The bookies made it 4/1 last week but cut it to 5/2, with flood alerts being issued across the UK.
